Reporting directly to IT Executive Director, R&D Labs, this person is responsible for identifying new IT solutions and delivery options that can maximize value to the CLS business unit, help lower business unit operating costs and optimize the total cost of ownership for business unit IT systems. Based on a sound knowledge of the business unit processes, major platforms and applications the person will work with the business unit to identify solution paths and build consensus towards preferred solutions. Forming a strong partnership with the business users and other IT teams, this person will be required to communicate effectively across many different levels and disciplines both internally and externally. They will be responsible for defining high level scope (requirements, justification, resource/cost estimates and schedule) for new IT opportunities. Working closely with Business Unit IT Director they will help with the prioritization of new project demands against the ongoing project portfolio. They will ensure the project portfolio is effectively managed and kept up to date and assist in the preparation and smooth running of the Business Unit IT Steering Committee (BUITSC). The person should be constantly keeping abreast of industry software trends, and monitoring the evolution of the existing key operating platforms used within the business unit with a view to optimizing upgrade schedules in line with business demands and needs. They will be a key interface with external suppliers to facilitate the forward thinking strategy of platform evolutions. In addition, they should maintain a strong working knowledge of IT capabilities in particular Business Analysis and High Level Design. Identify solution delivery options to maximize business value of IT: Identify opportunities to reduce IT cost structure based on knowledge of business unit applications, major platforms and environment. Investigate options to optimize total cost of ownership for business systems and platforms Assist in IT project portfolio prioritization. Define high level scope for new IT opportunities. Identify potential solution paths and build consensus towards a preferred solution. Provide accurate high level estimates of resources and cost to aid prioritization of projects. Facilitate engagement with business partners and solution delivery teams. Proactively investigate planned business investments such as capital expenditure requests for any IT scope of work and engage the appropriate solution group. Build a strong working knowledge of IT capabilities and industry software trends to identify opportunities for cost savings in increased business value. BS/BA degree in scientific, business or technology related field. 8 12 years of Business / functional and/or IT experience Experience working in a labs environment a plus 2 4 years Project management experience preferred Experience in working with external vendors / suppliers Experience managing virtual teams Good understanding of the Ph2-4 business processes and challenges. Documented ability to work in a large clinical development business with a highly matrixed organizational structure and basic understanding of the Drug Development process Experience of managing off-shore sourcing providers Prior experience of working in big Pharma preferred Strong IT, operational, financial and strategic planning and/or development experience Experience working in a global and multicultural organization, including working across national and international boundaries. Skilled in performing presentations and leading meetings. Strong time management, planning and budgeting experience is needed. Ability to interact with all levels within the organization Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously Ability to provide leadership and training to others Creative approach to resolving technical issues, and balancing business needs with compliance requirements Interpersonal skills and ability to command respect of the organization Demonstrates self-motivation to lead global teams on business strategies and achievement of department goals, objectives, and initiatives Team player
